The founders originally concentrated on pigmentary skin disorders and the psychological and social problems related to them, but over the years their interest moved towards other phenomena related to pigmentation like the serious and worldwide present practices of discrimination and racism. Initially, the working field of the foundation was the Netherlands, a country that during the past decades has rapidly changed from a mono ethnic society into a multi ethnic and multi cultured nation. The interest of us has, during the past 10 years, turned gradually towards global problems related to skin color. So the attention changed from the narrow field of problems related to pigmentary skin disorders like vitiligo, to a multitude of problems related to human pigmentation, viewed from different angles.

The organization aims at a scientific approach towards skin color issues, realizing however that this is not always feasible.  Sometimes an intuitive, non-scientific stance can lead to the solution.

Color Foundation positively stimulates people to accept each other regardless of the color of their skin. The idealistic aim is to further a good relation between people of all races, so finally getting a better world. However the founders realize that other phenomena in the global society, within and between countries also play a cardinal role in the way people relate. We think of phenomena, events and experiences like religion, difference in wealth, exploitation of one people by another, the difference between the sexes, the sexual nature of people and many more. So we realize that the relation between people is complex and determined by many factors.

Color Foundation however, adheres to the original concept that pigmentation of the skin, is one of the most visible features of man. 
Since ancient times skin color has been related with feelings of superiority and inferiority. This is one of the most important causes of problems and conflicts between people and nations.  Although many other fields in human relations will be incorporated in the area of interest of Color Foundation, pigmentation of the skin as a biological phenomenon with a multitude of radiations remains the starting point and foundation of our work.
The topics included in the field of activity of Color Foundation are related to a multitude of disciplines like biology, medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy and more.

In this website we shall present our work from the past and our ongoing work - often performed and produced together with others or sometimes even mainly by others but stimulated or supported by us. We shall also present work by others if we think that it is usefull to our goal. Our work is open for debate; however we demand a certain level of discussion, so being able to adhere to our original goal of striving towards scientific standards.
